the curse of the bright-eyed youth
is to fall into endless spirals
of destruction and darkness,
designed to snuff out
even the brightest of lights.
but the blessing of the bright-eyed youth
is to lie carelessly under bountiful sunshine
while soaking in the sights
with wondrous sighs praising
golden scenes of happiness.
the childhood that fades is what we erase
from our closed eyes,
blind to the terrors of the world –
blind to the fortunes too.
do not slip from your memory
that happiness once danced in your life
and that what drains you now
is not your downfall
but rather the hill you must climb
to see the sunrise.
