charon’s ferry

there is a ferry,

somewhere, in the rough ocean.

there is a ferry and a man.

it is the end here, the visitors know.

a new adventure, they think.

they are blind

to the misery left behind.

though the world isn’t far

from this underworld.

the man rows a ferry

(the earthly world left behind)

for the shades of the dead.

and, someday,

i will board the ferry,

and greet charon

with an obol

and hopes of a fool.

first time writing something like this, but was intrigued by charon and his lonely existence and what he symbolizes for humans. also, i am a demigod of hades, so says rick riordan’s website.
