fireplace

warm glow through the room
filtered orange and yellow
flickering, dancing

across the blank walls
and the contours of your face,
tracing the edges

of the warm blanket
covering your bare body,
the curves of your legs

the dips of your hips
that impish grin you give me
when the sunlight shines

across your red lips
that taste like hot chocolate
sloshing in your mug

our gloves intertwined
covered feet on wooden planks
under fading light

and the fire crackles
sparks shooting off languidly
painting the sunset

with red and gold sparks,
promises of tomorrow
wait to be fulfilled.
