the shades of color –
prejudices,
perceived disgust –
which rule our world
break and bind our hearts.
black and white,
shades in between,
define our limits –
our cages –
forever chained
to damaged stereotypes
that muffle our shouts.
spectrum of rainbows
bright and vibrant
of soulful truth –
of personal truth –
dulled by grey skies
threatening to rain
and drown out beauty.
blue and pink
and everything in between,
barbed wire barriers
digging into pure and beautiful flesh,
where blood wells out
amidst unique clothing,
unique smiles, unique looks
unto broken and bound hearts
caused by narrow minds –
narrow eyes, wicked tongues –
rule the world –
of which flames lick
and demand and want and eat
and threaten to destroy.
